The 9.30 creative service started today. Fairly good turn out and we had a bit of fun trying to get three people, each with their own piece of cord, to turn to another two people and pleat the three pieces into a plait. Some needed a project manager to make it happen but we all got there in our various ways and hung it on our trinity tree (what is that?) and somehow, we'll do something with that or add to it as the weeks go on. Not worked that out yet but that's where the fun lies.
It was a good image of trinity and we did lots of thinks in three (sung, times-tables, trialogues, shape of seats in a triangle etc)
I always worry that we divide the congregation however, where the shorter creative service that appeals to a healthy number of people and feeds them in ways the more classical service isn't always able to do so, but the classical service is thinner than usual. Does it just end up depressing people when there are two services because we don't get a sense of the real number of folk who are there and how do you keep the depth in the first service?
We all come back together again in August, but it is quite a long time to be without a sermon for the 9.30 folk (then perhaps not).
Any thoughts?
